Celebrating 3 Years

CoverIt came as a surprise to even us as we hung out with Jade & Travis this afternoon, capturing their sweet lil' one's very first photos! Today is June 5th which means it is our 3rd anniversary! Travis was actually the one to remind us (thanks Travis!).

Though our journey started long before, June 5th, 2013 was the first official day of our photography venture, Fifth of June! As we remember our first blog post, the story of why Paige decided to pick up a camera for the first time (Thanks Meg!) we are blown away by how far we have come. We look back on what led us to begin this little business and how we came up with the name Fifth of June in the first place and we're humbled and thankful for the provision the Lord has had for us.

We're so blessed to be able to do what we do and we love it. We love our clients, we love the moments we get to capture and the memories we get to be a part of. Thank you to everyone who has been part of our story, who has supported us along the way! As we always say, it's a privilege, an honor and a blessing to be able to do what we do! So here's to three years running and many more to come!

Sincerely,

Paige & Teran

Jade and Travis are not only awesome friends, but awesome clients! We first photographed them in the fall when they wanted some photos at their home where we shot a few top-secret pregnancy announcement photos! Fast forward 6 months later and we got to go back to their cozy place situated on some beautiful family property for a maternity shoot! It's so much fun watching new parents await the arrival of their firstborn.  Travis, always a good sport, was an adoring soon-to-be father and Jade was absolutely glowing! We can't wait to meet baby boy and we look forward to his very first photo shoot! Keep an eye out!

This is Home & A Giveaway!

Erin Stache, a long time friend and the author behind "This is My Life" blog recently reached out to us to see if we would be interested in a little giveaway celebrating the idea of "home".  There are few things we appreciate more than community so we were glad for the opportunity to support Erin and her blog. With our "City Print" lineup, we loved the idea of celebrating "home"! So read a little more about why we call Raleigh home and learn how to enter the giveaway below! 2016-04-26_0012

For over the past 10 years, Raleigh has been home for Teran and I. We would have been hard-pressed to imagine our present situation years ago. As each of us graduated high-school, I'm sure we had our own ideas and dreams of where we would end up and there was little part of either of us that could have guessed that it would be in the same city. Born and raised in Orlando, FL the idyllic childhood we spent there still makes it feel like home at times. From there we moved to what seemed like Orlando's opposite in every way, Franklin, NC. A small-town deep in the heart of the Smoky Mountains. It was there that we learned the blessings of small-town hospitality and community, while growing up in one of the most beautiful areas the east coast has to offer. The next stop for both of us would be Raleigh, NC. A city we were unfamiliar with but one of the largest we could find in this great state of ours.

It's amazing how life and perspectives change as you grow older. Beginning with our time at NC State, a new school year brought along an opportunity for us to live together in this city of ours. Soon I would be dragging Teran up to North Raleigh to join me at the church I was attending, soon to be followed by her yet-to-be fiancee and future husband, JJ. At the time, we were college students driving across town for church with few plans of what was ahead. But that's the cool thing about the future - it's unpredictable. None of us would have imagined that 10 years later we would still be attending that church, living just a few miles from it in adjoining neighborhoods, our houses just a short bike ride away from each other. Teran and JJ would be married in that church and JJ would become a Raleigh Police Officer and Teran & I would be running our own small-business. There would be two precious little boys who would join us along the way to introduce Teran and JJ to the world of parenthood and myself to the blessing of being an Aunt. We would work in jobs right next to each other and eventually we would alternate days doing one job in the same office.

Raleigh has been the place where we have grown as individuals, as a family, and as business owners. Our faith has grown, our community has grown and our hearts have grown attached to this city of ours. We have learned the back roads around this cozy city and have appreciated it for the small-town feel it still offers amid the city's amenities. Here we have found a way to plant our own roots - roots that have been nurtured and strengthened by the people and things that now make this place feel like Home.

So help us celebrate "Home"! If you would like to be entered to win a 12x18 City Print of your choice, be sure to visit our friend Erin over at "This is My Life" and see how you can enter to win!

cobb :: newborn :: knightdale, nc

There is nothing quite like a newborn session. As everyone knows, you never know what you're going to get with a brand new baby. At this age they could care less about getting that perfect picture for their parents and care only about how hungry or tired they are. I have to say, that was not the case with sweet Juliana. Yall, seriously....she did not cry the entire session..not.one.sound. I was amazed. And if that doesn't leave you saying, what??!?!?! She let us change her surroundings, change her outfits, swaddle her, not swaddle her, without a peep. The best part, it's like she knew what was going on. Even at a little over a week old she was following the camera. It was hard to get sleeping pictures of her because she would literally hear the sound of the camera and open her eyes to see what was going on.

And of course her parents Shannon and Jake were amazing too. None of those first time parents jitters, they were completely laid back and handling the new parent thing like champs! It made for an awesome session capturing this little beauty and the sweet family of three they now are!

powell :: family :: raleigh, nc

There is nothing quite as beautiful as a cool, crisp, Carolina morning. Then you add in a gorgeous location and an amazing family and you get a fantastic photo session! We love the Powell family and when Paige was raising money for the 12x12 Initiative they were so nice to come along beside Paige to support her by pledging toward the trip and receiving a photo shoot in return! It's always an honor to have repeat sessions with a family and we are grateful for clients like the Powell Family!

kayla & lucas :: wedding film :: hilton head island, sc

When Kayla contacted us to see if we would be available to do videography for her wedding in Hilton Head Island, SC we took out the calendar crossed out anything we might have had and immediately said YES! We love getting to do videography for weddings and we love Hilton Head! Lucas and Kayla had their wedding at the Sea Pines Resort with the ceremony on the beach and the reception in the newly renovated Beach Club. The day started overcast with a few drops of rain but by the 4:30 pm ceremony the sun was out and it was beautiful.

The setting was idyllic and watching Lucas tear up when he saw his bride for the first time coming down the boardwalk made the entire afternoon. The reception was equally beautiful, but even more fun! Lucas' side of the family is from Argentina and let me tell you, the Argentinian's know how to have a good time! It was so much fun watching the two sides of the family come together on the dance floor, smiling, laughing and having a blast!

Thank you, Lucas and Kayla as well as the Pollock and Stinson families for allowing us to be a part of your day!

blasingim :: 1 year old :: wake forest, nc

We got to spend this past Saturday with one of the sweetest little girls. When you talk about a laid back, easy going, sweet baby...Aerobella is that! When her mom, Julie, contacted us about doing a 1 year old shoot we were super excited! The day was a little overcast, but the temperature was great and Julie brought some of the best props and cute little girl outfits! She wanted something rural, which only makes sense because they live on a farm and have miniature horses and a fainting goat!! With the rural back drop, the old rocking chair and metal framed baby bed, it was everything we could have asked for. Not to mention the adorable baby, cute outfits and the smash cake it was all picture perfect!

We hope you all enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed getting to take them!

A Weekend in South Georgia

It's been years since we have been to Georgia to visit JJ's grandparents. In fact, the last time we were there was when we went to tell them we were pregnant with Aiden! With life being as busy as it has been the past few years we knew if we didn't just schedule a weekend we wouldn't ever make it! So we scheduled the weekend and the night before we were supposed to leave we were afraid the boys had gotten the stomach bug that had been going around and cancelled. Well needless to say they didn't get it, so thankfully we were able to move some things around and the next week we were on our way to Georgia! It was 7 hours down, a day there, and 7 hours back...but the boys did awesome traveling and enjoyed everyone moment with Granny and Papaw. We're so thankful for the family we have been blessed with and never want to take them for granted! We hope the boys will always know how loved they are and value the family we have!

The boys had the best time playing in their yard, exploring Papaw's work shop and getting spoiled by their great grandparents!

Wilmington, NC :: GoingLocal NC and Wrightsville Beach

I hate to admit it but even though I've lived in Raleigh for almost 13 years I've only been to Wilmington a handful of times and 2 of those times happened in one week this past month! I must say, we LOVED it and will definitely be going more often! This past winter, Paige and I were selling our prints in Going Local NC's Raleigh location through Christmas. Shortly after Christmas they re-located to Wilmington. When they asked if we would continue to sell in their store we weren't sure how we would make it work with inventory and restocking, but I'm so glad we decided to be a part of this new adventure! Wilmington is awesome, Going Local NC is awesome, their location is awesome...it's all just a bunch of awesome'ness!

Our first trip was on a Tuesday to see the location of the store and get some shots of Wilmington and Wrightsville to create some local content. It was great, the weather was beautiful and we were able to explore downtown, the river walk, and Wrightsville Beach. The boys went with us and they loved it!

When we went back a week later to set up our display and stock inventory the boys and JJ were able to come along. We enjoyed an amazing lunch downtown and once again, some time on the beach!

Check out some photos from our Wilmington trip, some of our Wilmington Prints, and be sure to check out Going Local NC at 208 Front Street next time you're in Wilmington! You can also shop all of our prints on our etsy store found here and in the menu link.

lee :: family :: wake forest, nc

Lane is a dear, dear friend. We have known her through the years, but when my back was up against a wall and I was trying to find someone to keep the boys so I could take a part-time job that had been offered to me. She willingly came to my house, stayed with my boys, and did all of this for little pay! I will never be able to let her know how thankful I am. Lane had to stop staying with my boys in September, because she was pregnant with their 2nd and needless to say trying to keep up with 3 kids under 3 can be exhausting...especially when you're pregnant!

Ms. Abby wasn't due until January, but back in December I got a text from Lane saying she thought she was in labor. Sure enough at 36 weeks sweet Abby Grace came into this world in her own time. Paige and I were gone for the holidays, but the week we got back we went over to their new (and super adorable) house and had the best time with Abby, big sis Anna Kate and the entire family.

Thank You Lee family for allowing us into your beautiful new home and for allowing us to be a part of this special time of your life.

diering :: family :: wake forest, nc

Around the holidays families love to get together and that was no different for the Dierings. The parents Steve and Nancy live here in Raleigh along with one of their sons and his family. His wife Maria, has been a good friend of  Paige's and I's for years now so we were excited to get to take family photos of everyone while Nate's brother and his wife and son were in town. It was a cold afternoon, and with 3 small children that can always get interesting, but they were all fabulous, and gorgeous so it was a fantastic photo shoot. Plus Sadie, Maria and Nate's 4 year old daughter, was a great photo assistant telling everyone where to stand, how to pose, and what looked good!

We love this family and this session!

dodard family :: raleigh, nc :: maternity

Aiden and Grant love being outside. I mean they LOVE. BEING. OUTSIDE. When our new neighbors moved in this past summer I was excited because they had a little girl who also loves being outside. The best part as "mom" is that I also love being outside especially when that means I now get to hangout with a good friend (i.e. new neighbor "Amy" - Hi Amy!). As most stay at home moms know, finding adult time can be hard, especially with little ones. That's why it's been such a treat to have awesome neighbors that I can get some adult time with even with the little ones because they play together while we get to hang out!

When Amy and Patrick moved here from Florida they let us know that they would be due with their 2nd baby on Christmas Day. As the months went on and Christmas got closer they found out that Charlotte was looking to be a big baby and they would have to induce her early. Realizing that Amy's sister ( who would be coming for Christmas) wouldn't be able to take their maternity photos before Amy's due date, they asked me to do the honor. I was so happy to do it and below you will find some of my favorite images from the shoot!

Andrew & Chelsea :: Wedding Film :: Hiltons, VA

Freezing temperatures and blustering winds couldn't put a damper on Andrew & Chelsea's gorgeous Virginia wedding. From the moment we pulled up to the property of Crooked River Farms we were blown away. Rolling pastures and a beautiful venue nestled in the Appalachian mountains - it doesn't get much prettier than that. With their ceremony taking place outside, guests were treated to apple cider and hot cocoa while the huge outdoor fireplace added to the ambiance of the moment! From there the celebration continued inside the gorgeous Ohio Grist Mill, circa-1823 - this gorgeous two-story reception venue is highlighted by it's 12x12 oak beams and picturesque lighting! It was such an honor celebrating the day with this sweet couple alongside of their family and friends! Andrew & Chelsea, we wish you all the best! Thank you for allowing us to document your wedding day - it was a wonderful display of worship, beauty and love!

buckner family :: raleigh, nc

We had the pleasure of working with the Buckner family for a family session a few weeks ago. They had their little girl, Ella, back in the spring and she is cute as a button with her baby cheeks and beautiful blue eyes! It was a chilly afternoon, but the Buckner's were troopers and let us play with the beautiful afternoon light as we enjoyed our time at the park. Most babies only give us a few minutes to get their pictures before they're done. But Ella was made for the camera, she was so cooperative and was in good spirits the entire time!

powell :: wedding film :: rocky mount, nc

When Stacy contacted us about doing the videography for their wedding we were so excited. We have known Stacy's sister, Alison, and her husband Gary for a few years now - we've even had the pleasure of shooting some family photos for them! We love the Powell family and we were excited to find out that Stacy (Alison's sister) was marrying Kevin (Gary's brother). Of course, weddings are typically a family affair, but these two took the term "keeping it in the family" to a whole new level! It's always an honor being part of a couple's special day - be sure to check out the highlights of Kevin & Stacy's beautiful winter wedding!

pilkington family :: family :: wake forest, nc

What can we say about the Pilkington Family!? We love Taylor and Cassidy and have had the pleasure of shooting so many of their major life events! From wedding, newborn and family photos, we have been with them through it all! Taylor and Cassidy have two adorable children Rory and McKenzie. Kenzie is a beautiful, vibrant, out-going 3-year-old who has all of the adorable qualities of the 1st child. She loves her brother and loves the camera! Rory is all boy, on the move, into everything, and much too busy to stop and smile for a camera. But who can blame him!? The boy has things to do!

Thank you Pilkington's for allowing us the honor of watching your family grow throughout the years!

the cleveland family :: wake forest, nc

Ever since "#thedaytheclevelandsleft" we eagerly await the Cleveland's return when they come to visit! We were so excited when Brad and Meredith said they were coming to town and wanted to do a session while they were here. Their week in Raleigh was a bit crazy with Brad being busy with work and Meredith having to do life with sick babies, but you never would have known it on their photo day. We were supposed to have dinner with them during the week, but plans changed when Amos decided to throw up all over his sister right before dinner #lifewithkids. Thankfully, everyone was feeling better by the time their session came around! Isabell was all smiles, Amos perfected the can't make me smile stare, Meredith was beautiful and Brad....well Brad is Brad! We love you Cleveland Family and can't wait to see you again!

beardsley family :: wake forest, nc

We met with the Beardsley family on a beautiful Saturday morning and got some awesome photos of their family! The Beardsley's are one of the sweetest families we know. They have 5-year old twins, Laila and Ty, and two-year old, Decker. It didn't take long at all for Ty and Laila to get into the session and not soon after Decker was right there with them "cheeeeese'ing" it up! The love this family has for each other was so transparent and it was a lot of fun getting to hang out with them and capture these beautiful memories.
